Richard Teaster, Music Director, holds degrees in vocal performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. He completed further professional studies at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and the Pittsburgh Opera Center.
Mr. Teaster has been an active bass-baritone performing in opera as well as oratorio and concert venues. He has sung with such noted companies as Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Festival Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Shreveport Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Chatham Baroque and Aspen Opera Theater.
In addition to directing the Steel City Men’s Chorale, Mr. Teaster has been a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh since 1999, where he teaches private and class voice and directs the Pitt Men’s Glee Club. He is also a voice instructor of musical theater at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama and was formerly Assistant Director of Choral Activities at Duquesne University. Founded in the fall of 2017, the Steel City Men’s Chorale is in its 4th season as a community-based men’s choral ensemble devoted to promoting quality men’s choral music in the greater Pittsburgh region.
